LED Lighting:

What you need to know: Long gone are the days when you went to the store and found only a handful of lighting options to choose from.  Today, entire aisles are filled with a confusing variety of bulbs at many different price points.  LED bulbs consistently make headlines for being long lasting and energy efficient, but are they really worth the investment?

Phase-out of incandescents:  Classic incandescent light bulbs are being phased out in 2013, thanks to a bipartisan law called The Energy Independence and Security Act 0f 2007 that President George W.Bush signed.  That means you may still find popular incandescents on the store floors, but when current stock runs out, they'll be gone.  Newer bulb options are much more efficient, so it's time to put Thomas Edison's century-old invention to rest.

LEDs primed to shine:  The phase-out comes at an appropriate time as people are looking for more efficent lighting options.  CFL and LED bulbs are both modern options that are more energy efficent than incandescent bulbs.  At Braden Constructin, we believe LEDF bulbs are the future of lighting for both residential and commercial.

The many benefits of LED:  LEDs stand out in two main ways:  They last much longer and they produce much less heat.  In fact, LEDs last approximately 25 times as long as incandescent and three times as long as CFLs, according to a report in the New York Times.  Put one in now and it may be years, if not decades, before you need to replace it.

LEDs are also extremely efficent when it comes to producing unnecessary heat.  Incandescents are the worst offenders, releasing 90 percent of their energy as heat.  These bulbs are basically little heaters, and while the initial investment is lower, the cost to run them over the long term adds up.  Energy Star-qualified LED lights, for example, use 75 percent less energy than conventional incandescent lights.

Are you ready for LEDs?:  If you're looking to upgrade your lighting, consider the many benefits of LEDs.  The upfront cost of LEDs is easily made up by their longevity and energy efficency.
